
The entrance board shows spaces on Level B2. A driver follows the arrow, reaches the indicated aisle and finds no usable bay. Even if every device is powered, the guidance system has not answered the driver's question correctly.
Commissioning a parking guidance system means checking the whole chain: physical space, detection, bay identity, zone calculation, sign and route. The useful acceptance test follows a change all the way from a parked vehicle to the instruction a driver sees.
Freeze the bay map before counting spaces
Use the final marked layout and give every monitored bay a unique reference. Match that reference across the drawing, installed device or camera region, dashboard and maintenance list.
Define the zones that each display reports. A floor total and an aisle total can both be correct while still confusing drivers if the sign does not make the boundary clear. Record spaces that are closed, restricted or otherwise unavailable to the intended user group.
Do not quietly add a repainted bay or move a boundary during commissioning. Update the drawing and mapping record, then repeat the affected checks. A stable baseline makes later faults much easier to investigate.
Follow one bay through both states
Under an approved test plan, observe an available bay, park a test vehicle and then clear it. Check the physical bay, the system reference and the corresponding indicator each time.
Continue to the zone count and display. Did the right zone change? Did it change once? Did an unrelated aisle remain unchanged? Record the time at each visible stage so the team can compare the result with the agreed response criteria.
Indoor PGS can use bay sensors or a camera-based design. Camera PGS monitors defined groups of indoor bays. Outdoor PGS uses geomagnetic detection with wireless communication. Use the test procedure and expected timing for the selected architecture rather than imposing one timing assumption on every technology.
Check the sign from the driver's approach
Stand or travel through the approved observation route with the site team. Can the driver read the zone name and arrow before committing to the ramp or turn? Does the destination use the same name on the next sign?

Test a zone with no generally available bays and the agreed treatment of a closed area. Avoid directing drivers into a restricted or inaccessible route simply because a sensor reports an empty space there.
Test an unavailable device as well as an occupied bay
Have authorised installers demonstrate the approved fault scenario. Ask what the operator sees, what happens to the affected availability count and how the display communicates any uncertainty.
Agree that behaviour in the acceptance plan. A last-known state, an excluded bay and an unavailable-data warning have different implications. The supplier should explain the chosen approach for your installation, including how normal reporting resumes.
Where Parking Analytics is included, check that the device warning and missing interval are understandable there too. Do not let a clean-looking display hide an unresolved mapping or communication issue.
Use a deployment reference to frame the route

For a mixed indoor and outdoor site, define where counts combine and where they stay separate. The Parking Guidance Systems overview describes those modules; the commissioning drawing should show the configuration actually supplied.
Keep a handover pack the maintenance team can use
Retain the final bay map, device references, display-zone rules, observed results, open defects and retest responsibilities. Include the approved procedure for changing bay numbers or taking an area out of service.
Is a correct dashboard enough? No. Check the driver-facing indicator, count, arrow and physical route as well.
Should every bay be checked? Agree coverage explicitly. Each unique bay mapping needs verification, while additional scenarios should cover the system's zones, operating conditions and fault behaviour.
Bring the marked layout and proposed sign locations to a PGS site assessment. They give commissioning a practical starting point before equipment is ordered.
